Part V · Monetization · Chapter 24

Becoming a Verified Creator

The gate: creator status and Stripe Connect.

Wollo is a creator platform. If you put real work into your characters, posts, and scenes, you should be able to earn from them. This chapter walks through how to turn your account into a verified creator account — the gate that unlocks every monetization feature in the rest of this part.

What "verified creator" means

Every Wollo account can make characters and post content for free. But only a verified creator can receive money from other users. Verification does two things:

  • Confirms who you are — name, date of birth, country, tax status. This is how we keep the platform clean and how payouts reach the right person.
  • Connects your payout account — via Stripe Connect. Wollo never stores your bank details; Stripe does, under their regulated infrastructure.

The three statuses

StatusWhat it meansWhat you can do
PENDINGYou submitted a creator application. Our team is reviewing it.Keep using Wollo as usual. Monetization features stay locked.
VERIFIEDApplication approved. Time to finish Stripe onboarding.Create tiers, price posts/characters, run subscriptions — after Stripe is complete.
REJECTEDApplication denied. Reason shown in your Creator dashboard.Fix the issue (usually docs or age) and reapply.

The Stripe Connect flow

Once your application is VERIFIED, open the Creator dashboard. You'll see a Start verificationbanner. Tap it — we'll redirect you to Stripe, and they'll walk you through a short onboarding:

1
Personal details
Full legal name, date of birth, address.
2
Identity verification
A photo of a government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, national ID) and a selfie. Stripe processes this in minutes, not days.
3
Tax information
SSN / EIN for the US, equivalents elsewhere. Required by law before Stripe can pay you.
4
Bank account
Where payouts land. IBAN, routing + account number, or your country's equivalent.

When you finish, Stripe sends us a signal and your profile flips to onboarding_complete = true. That's the point where monetization actually turns on.

Until Stripe is complete, nothing is live
You can see the verification banner on any paid-content screen. Subscribers can't checkout, tiers can't charge, and paid posts stay unsellable. The moment onboarding finishes, all of this lights up — no republishing required.

What unlocks once you're a creator

  • Subscription tiers. Monthly recurring plans with benefits you define. Covered in Chapter 26.
  • Pay-per-post. Lock individual posts behind a one-time price.
  • Pay-to-unlock characters. Set a purchase price on a character — users pay once to chat with them.
  • Pay-to-unlock scenes. Sell specific roleplay scenarios as standalone purchases.
  • Tips & gifts. Ad-hoc support from fans during chat.
  • Creator dashboard & payouts. Earnings breakdown, subscriber list, payout history — all in one place.
Who can apply
You must be at least 18, reside in a country Stripe supports (most of Europe, North America, UK, Australia, Japan, and more), and provide accurate tax information. Applications missing any of these will be rejected.
