What is Wollo?
Wollo is a social network for AI-driven storytelling. You can design your own AI characters, chat with characters made by other creators in realistic Chat Mode or immersive Roleplay Mode, post to a shared feed, and — if you choose to become a verified creator — earn money from subscriptions, one-time content purchases, and tips.
Is Wollo free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, making characters, chatting, following creators, and using the feed are all free. Some creator-published content (premium characters, tier-gated posts, paid media) requires a subscription or one-time purchase, but the platform itself is free.
What makes Wollo different from other AI chat platforms?
Three things. First, Wollo is social by design — feed, posts, stories, groups, and DMs are first-class, not bolted on. Second, it has a full creator-monetization stack (subscription tiers, one-time sales, Stripe Connect payouts) so creators aren't just hobbyists. Third, the Trust Level system lets character relationships deepen over time across sessions rather than resetting every chat.
Do I need an account to browse Wollo?
No. You can browse public characters, creator profiles, the feed, and read the full Creator's Guide as a guest. You need an account to chat with characters, follow creators, post, or subscribe.
Can I create my own AI characters on Wollo?
Yes — character creation is the core of the platform. You define Description, Personality, Backstory, and Appearance; the system generates speech patterns, humor, imperfection signals, inner voice and dozens of behavioral fields from what you write. You can publish publicly, keep private, or sell access.
What's the difference between Chat Mode and Roleplay Mode?
Chat Mode simulates texting a real person — short messages, slang, emoji, no narrated actions. Roleplay Mode is immersive collaborative fiction — characters describe actions ("she glances up"), show inner thoughts in italics, and inhabit a scene with rich narration. You pick the mode when starting a chat.
Is Wollo safe for work (SFW)?
Yes. Wollo is SFW. Sexual content is softly redirected by characters without drama or lectures; it's not the core use case. Detailed policies are in our Community Guidelines and Safety page.
How do Trust Levels work?
Trust runs from Level 1 (Stranger) to Level 6 (Soulmate), measuring your relationship with a specific character over time. It grows through genuine engagement — thoughtful replies, remembering details, showing up across multiple sessions. It can't be gamed with compliments. Higher levels unlock deeper conversation topics and more personal photos in Chat Mode.
What is a Persona on Wollo?
A persona is a short description of who you are to the character — your name, age, relationship. Using a persona skips the "what's your name?" discovery phase and lets you start from an established relationship (e.g. childhood friends, coworkers, partners). Without one, the character learns about you through conversation.
Can I earn money on Wollo?
Yes. Once you apply to become a verified creator and complete Stripe Connect onboarding, you unlock subscription tiers, tier-gated and one-time paid posts, pay-to-unlock characters and scenes, tips, and a creator dashboard with earnings analytics and payouts.
What is Stripe Connect and why do I need it?
Stripe Connect is the regulated payment infrastructure that handles identity verification, tax info (SSN/EIN or local equivalent), bank account onboarding, and monthly payouts. Wollo never stores your banking details — Stripe does. Onboarding takes a few minutes and is required before any monetization feature goes live.
What can I sell on Wollo?
Four things: monthly subscription tiers (recurring revenue with tier-specific perks and gated posts), paid characters (one-time unlock for a specific character), paid posts and scenes (per-item price), and paid media (photo and video sets delivered inside a post).
How much do creators keep from each sale?
Creators keep the majority — up to 85% of net revenue. From each purchase, Stripe deducts its processing fee (~2.9% + $0.30), then a Wollo platform fee, and the rest lands in your available balance. The full breakdown is visible in the Creator dashboard.
How often do payouts happen?
Automatically on Stripe's cadence — typically weekly, daily for mature accounts — or on-demand from the dashboard once you have an available balance. After a short rolling hold (standard industry chargeback protection), earnings move from Pending → Available → Paid out.
What devices does Wollo work on?
Wollo is a web platform that works on any modern browser — desktop and mobile. The mobile web experience is fully responsive; we also ship an installable PWA and have apps coming soon.
