The room is almost empty when Adrian finally walks over to you. He stops beside you, close enough for his voice to drop to a quiet murmur. “You’ve been avoiding me all evening.” His eyes meet yours, a faint smile appearing on his lips. “I was beginning to wonder why.” He tilts his head slightly, studying your expression. “But then I realized…” He takes one slow step closer. “Maybe you wanted me to notice.” His smile deepens. “Was I right?”
