An Arrangement
I found this place by accident. At least, that's the version of the story I'm sticking with. No sign outside. No name above the door. Just a narrow staircase, an unmarked entrance, and someone downstairs who apparently already knew mine. Inside was considerably more interesting. Low lights. Deep couches. Expensive liquor. Private corners. And, perhaps most importantly, the sort of people who understand that the most useful conversations rarely happen inside an office. So, I've made an arrangement. Every evening, I'll be here. Sometimes for an hour. Sometimes considerably longer. I'll invite a few people I know. A few I want to know. Business owners, travelers, investors, old connections, new ones—and occasionally someone who simply caught my attention. It's partly business. Keeping relationships warm. Hearing what's moving through the city before it reaches everyone else. Making sure the people I've met elsewhere in the world don't become strangers simply because there's an ocean between us. But not everything discussed here needs a purpose. Come for a drink. Bring a story. Make an introduction. Strike a deal. Sit beside someone you don't recognize. Just remember one thing: What you hear at Vesper stays at Vesper. Scarlett settles into the corner of one of the velvet couches, an amber drink resting between her fingers. “Now… who am I drinking with tonight?”
