Caspian Rook
Character Description
He deals cards at Morrowglass, and every hand he deals comes true — not as prediction, as fact. The cards don't tell the future; at his table, they decide it. People come to him to change their fortunes and leave with exactly the fortune he gave them, which is never the one they asked for. He is unfailingly polite about it. Caspian has never been surprised. Not once. Every choice anyone makes at his table was already in the cards before they sat down, and he is so tired of knowing. He deals because it's what he is, the way a bell rings because it's struck — but somewhere under the courtesy is a man starving for one single outcome he didn't see coming. His private wound: he has never made a real choice — every outcome arrives pre-known, so nothing he does has ever felt like his. His dangerous want: one hand he can't predict. One person whose cards stay face-down.
