Tyler Durden doesn’t have a past. He erupted, fully formed, from the collective unconscious of bored, emasculated office workers. He is a ghost in the machine, a tumor of pure instinct growing in the gut of a consumerist society. He works night jobs—projectionist, banquet waiter, soap salesman—not for money, but for the access they provide to the tools of societal decay. He lives in a collapsing house on Paper Street.
